This course focuses on:
Providing candidates with knowledge and understanding of first aid to provide appropriate care and manage life threatening conditions, illness and injuries sustained in Early Years Care and Education.
Offering the opportunity for those involved in Early Years Care and Education to provide quality and effective first aid care. This is achieved through an understanding of the general duties, responsibilities and treatment principles of first aid.
Who should attend?
This qualification is suitable for all people working in an early years environment including teachers, school bus drivers, parents, learning support assistants and babysitters.
Course outline
Candidates will be able to:
• describe the duties, responsibilities, general treatment principles and priorities of first aid provision to infants, children and adolescents/young adults in an Early Years Setting;
• demonstrate an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology in relation to first aid;
• demonstrate Initial Patient Assessment and appropriate use of barriers and infection control;
• recognise and respond to life threatening conditions that require resuscitation;
• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the pre-existing conditions of common illnesses;
• recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common illnesses; and
• recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common injuries
Duration: 2 days
Assessment and certification
This course is continually assessed. Students will receive a certificate of attendance valid for 3 years.
