Anaphylaxis (with Epipen) and Basic Life Support

This course covers basic adult and child life support skills and provides an opportunity to learn or update these skills. It also covers anaphylaxis and administration of Adrenaline via an Epipen.

Who should attend?
 
Those who are looking to learn or update basic life saving skills and those who need to be familiar and up to date with anaphylaxis i.e. doctors, nurses and dentists.

Course outline:
 

Basic Life Support (CPR)
 
Participants will be taught how to open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and perform chest compressions on adult and infant manikins. All learners will be given the opportunity to practise their skills. Air adjuncts i.e. airways and bag ‘n’ mask can be introduced on request.

Duration:
 Up to 3 hours.

Assessment and certification:
 

This course contains a practical assessment. Students receive a certificate that is valid for 1 year

Oxygen Therapy and Basic Life Support (4 hours)

This course provides the opportunity to learn key life-saving skills, including airway management with the addition of learning how to safely administer oxygen therapy. This is a practical course and contains some theory in relation to the subjects covered.

Who should attend?
 
Those who would like an understanding of key life-saving skills and who have the responsibility of being able to administer the POM oxygen.

Course outline:
 

Basic life Support
 
Participants will be taught how to open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and perform chest compressions. All students will be given the opportunity to practice their skills on a resuscitation manikin.
In addition participants will be taught how to use airway adjuncts i.e. airways and ‘bag n mask’.

Unconscious casualty
 
Examination of an unconscious casualty and includes placing an unconscious person in the recovery position.

Choking
 
Participants will learn how to deal with mild and severe choking for adults.

Oxygen therapy
 
The indications and contra-indications for oxygen. How to safely administer and store oxygen.

Duration:
 Approximately 4 hours

Assessment and certification: 
This course is continually assessed. Students receive a certificate of attendance that is valid for 1 year
