This course provides the opportunity to learn key life-saving skills, including airway management with the addition of learning how to safely administer oxygen therapy and entonox. This is a practical course and contains some theory in relation to the subjects covered.
Who should attend?
Those who would like an understanding of key life-saving skills and who have the responsibility of being able to administer the POM oxygen.
Course outline:
Basic life Support
Participants will be taught how to open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and perform chest compressions. All students will be given the opportunity to practice their skills on a resuscitation manikin.
In addition participants will be taught how to use airway adjuncts i.e. airways and ‘bag n mask’.
Unconscious casualty
Examination of an unconscious casualty and includes placing an unconscious person in the recovery position.
Choking
Participants will learn how to deal with mild and severe choking for adults.
Oxygen therapy
The indications and contra-indications for oxygen. How to safely administer and store oxygen.
Administration of Entonox
The indications and contra-indications for entonox. How to safety administer and store entonox.
Duration: Approximately 5 hours
Assessment and certification:
This course is continually assessed. Students receive a certificate of attendance that is valid for 1 year
