Introduction
This course provides candidates with an opportunity to study in both practical and theoretical aspects of first aid in a sport and activity environment.
Who should attend?
Those acting as 'Manager', 'Coach', 'Trainer', or 'Therapist' for sports clubs and for Teachers responsible for school teams.
Course Outline
Candidates should be able to:
• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the duties, responsibilities, general treatment principles and priorities of first aid provision to adults
and children in a sport and activity environment;
• demonstrate an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology in relation to sports first aid;
• demonstrate Initial Patient Assessment and appropriate use of barriers and infection control;
• recognise and respond to life threatening conditions that require resuscitation;
• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the pre-existing conditions of
• common illnesses and injuries;
• recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common illnesses;
• recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common injuries; and
• demonstrate knowledge, understanding and appropriate use of first aid equipment.
Assessment and certification
This course is continually assessed. Students receive a certificate of attendance that is valid for 3 years.
